Andalusia has registered historic record exports in the aeronautical sector worth 1,618 million euros in the first half of 2024, thanks to a year-on-year increase of 87%, so that it grows 43 points above the national average (+44%), and becomes the second most exporting region, with 32% of total sales.
According to the reports of Andalucía TRADE- Business Agency for the Transformation and Economic Development of the Andalusian Regional Government, these data show that Seville continues to be the spearhead province of the sector, since it concentrates practically all the sales (98%), with 1,594 million, and a growth of 87% year-on-year.
On the other hand, it should be noted that the public agency recently held the edition of ADM Seville 2024, which took place from May 14 to 16 at the Fibes exhibition center in the Andalusian capital. Aerospace & Defence Meeting is the main business forum for the sector in southern Europe, which, in its seventh and last edition this year, had a record 1,343 professionals from 29 countries participating, which will undoubtedly contribute to boosting the aerospace industry in Spain and Andalusia in particular.
Within the framework of this event, the Minister of Economy, Finance and European Funds, Carolina España, in her capacity as president of Andalucía TRADE, and the president of Andalucía Aerospace, Antonio Gómez-Guillamón, renewed the collaboration agreement to continue promoting the international activity of the Andalusian aerospace industry.
In this way, and aware of the strategic importance of this sector, Andalucía TRADE continues working to promote the industry in the world together with the Andalucía Aerospace cluster, holding actions such as trade missions to countries like India, Germany or the United Kingdom; and attending major trade fairs such as Paris Air Show Le Bourget; Aerospace Meetings Casablanca; Ila Germany and Farnborough UK.
Andalusia is also one of the main aeronautical hubs in Europe and, together with Toulouse and Hamburg, is the only one in Spain with a final assembly line (FAL) for a large aircraft, the Airbus A400M. This provides a significant boost to this industry.
In this sense, the Andalusian Government has catalogued this industry as strategic and, therefore, has promoted ‘Aerospace Strategy of Andalusia 2021-2027’, a program that responds to the need to support a highly complex industry that is at the forefront of technology and has maximum capacity to attract foreign investment projects. The efforts of the Andalucía Aerospace cluster, as well as Airbus, as a major European tractor industry, also contribute to this line.
Asia registers more than three times the sales (+271%)
The Andalusian aeronautical industry, with these sales figures (1,618 million euros) and growth (+87%) contributes a total of 1,107 million euros to Andalusia’s trade balance from January to June 2024. Andalusia is the second exporting community after the Community of Madrid (48%) and above the Basque Country (6.2%).
Likewise, exports of the Andalusian aeronautical sector during the first half of 2024 correspond to an advance, mainly in Asia, with more than triple sales, as it has risen by 271%, up to a turnover of 180 million euros; and in America, which has also grown by 16.8%, with an invoice of 116 million. Europe continues to lead the way, with 80% of the total, and sales of 1,293 million, up 83%.
In terms of destination countries, the high growth rates of the TOP 10 are striking, led by Germany, which grew by 1,270% to reach 636 million euros (39% of the total), followed by France, with 463 million euros, a growth of 39% and a weight of 28.6%, and Belgium, a market that grew by 5,679% to reach 136 million euros (8.4% of the total).
The most outstanding growth in the TOP 10 was in Brunei, which with 134,879% climbed to 4th position in the TOP 10 with 78 million euros, followed by the United States, with 72 million euros (+24.1%); India, which grew by 672% to 71 million euros; Canada with 39 million euros (+7%) and the United Kingdom, 28 million euros (-81%).
Closing the TOP 10, Morocco with the second highest growth 17,622% (22 million euros) and Portugal, with 7 million euros and a decrease of -86%.
