We close 2021, a complex year in which, despite everything, there have been numerous projects and initiatives that we have launched and that come, on the one hand, to consolidate the sustainable growth of MyM and, on the other hand, to help our company continue to evolve to be more competitive.
It is worth noting that both Airbus and Boeing are resuming production of the A320neo and B737max, respectively, which means an increase in orders from the two aeronautical giants. In addition, our recent achievement of Leonardo Helicopters’ accreditation for the manufacture, assembly and installation of metal structures and subassemblies has also increased the workload on our MRO line. Thus, colleagues from our team were in charge of going to Albacete for the MRO of all Air Force helicopters. In addition, we participated in the Service Life Extension Program (FLOAN) of the fleet of AB-212 helicopters belonging to the third squadron of the Spanish Navy.
In terms of accreditations, MyM has obtained one more year, the certificate that accredits it as a company registered in the General Directorate of Armament and Materials (DGAM), which allows it to opt for opportunities that emanate from the Ministry of Defense as a supplier -actual or potential- of, in this case, equipment, materials and aeronautical services necessary for the fulfillment of the missions assigned to the Armed Forces.
Regarding our R&D line, this year we have started projects with which we are improving technologies, automation and the process of the company’s main activities, participating in the continuous national and international development. Thus, we are working on projects approved and financed by the CDTI last April, such as GREENBATH (automation of the electrochemical treatment of metal parts) and DeePEst (simulation of the stretching process for aerospace alloys).
Likewise, and to close 2021, we have been awarded a project that will help to increase our position as a reference in sustainable innovation and efficiency: ACTIVAL (ACTIVa protection and ultrasound-based sensors in ALuminum aerostructures), developed by the consortium of which our company is part together with Titania Ensayos y Proyectos Industriales S.L., Chemplate Materials S.L. and Innerspec Technologies Europe S.L., has been one of the proposals approved in the first call of the Aeronautical Technological Program (PTA) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
Other initiatives that we have launched in recent months are, for example, the FENIX project, launched at the beginning of the year, which has been the initial step in the improvement of processes and facilities of MyM, a strategic action that will continue to be developed in 2022 to make us even more competitive. Meanwhile, the implementation of a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system for tracking offers is enabling us to organize and manage all the parameters related to our customers, and we are honored and pleased to have recently incorporated Javier Álvarez Vara to our board, whose experience and knowledge are national and international benchmarks and who will surely help us to continue building the bright future of our company.
We have also participated and sponsored several scientific conferences such as the 18th International Conference on Product Lifecycle Management (PLM2021), held virtually in Brazil last July; we have been present at events such as the 8th International Business Convention for the aerospace industry – Aerospace & Defense Meetings in Turin or in a trade mission to Portugal to open new avenues of business and collaboration in industrial matters with Embraer. We have also organized an Internship Talent Program (ITP) Day at our facilities in the Tecnobahía Technology Park to showcase everything we can offer to young talent from engineering schools in universities such as Cadiz and Seville. For his part, our CEO and president, Domingo Ureña, has participated in renowned events such as the 2nd Space & Industrial Economy 5.0 Seville Virtual Summit, while our general manager, Luis Pizarro, has also participated in events such as the 1st ASPROMEC Machining Congress.
We cannot forget other key aspects in development such as training at all levels through initiatives such as the return after the pandemic impasse of the “Course on forming, heat and surface treatments of aluminum alloys“, organized by the aeronautical manufacturing training center FID Aeronáutica and in which MyM collaborates with the joint development of the academic content and the management of internships for students at our facilities in Salinas and Espera, or the completion of industrial theses with internal research activities.
Another essential aspect on which we are working in recent months is the communication of our company: during the fourth quarter of the year we have launched a new strategy, hand in hand with AOM Communication and Digital Marketing, in order to make known to our environments of interest how much we do in MyM.
This brief summary is but a sample of what we have been doing these months. This has been achieved by all of us, as well as to be plotting day by day the future and the consolidation of our company in an increasingly competitive and international market. Here’s to a 2022 full of health and in which we continue to grow in a sustainable way.
